I've been catching up on Makaisenki the last couple of days and I didn't know that Kouga was replaced in the new series. So it was a complete shock that the main characters were replaced. And I have to say I normally think it's not so bad if they've had 2 series. But on this occasion I dislike the new approach. This first episode came across to me as very generic and a bit too much like Kamen Rider. I enjoy Kamen Rider, but Garo should be something different given it's status as an adult show.
Ryuga, as a main character, strikes me as quite lacking in redeeming qualities. Maybe they're setting him up as ''a crap Garo'' that'll turn out to be good later on. I don't think he is Kouga's son because he has a different surname and looks and acts completely different. I can only hope that it is later explained how he came to be Garo and maybe Kouga will turn up and it'll turn out Ryuga nicked the Garo power or title or something.
I also didn't care much for the made-up city and future setting. Fictional places in TV programmes annoy me because if it was in a real place then I could believe it was really happening although most people seem to believe the opposite. And the future setting annoyed me because if they keep skipping to the next generation, it'll end up in the year 5 billion in 20 years!
And also the music. The initial theme song didn't grab me the way they have before. I don't know what I don't like about it, there's just something missing. And if it means we have dramatic scenes without the ''Oh-oh-oh-oh-ohhh-ohhhhh''[the original instrumental theme] then that is bound to take away some epicness.
The only thing I really liked in the episode was the attractive lady! I hope she'll be in the next episodes more.
Well she's bound to be, she was in the next time preview.
Well that's my opinion, told in my style. The comments[if there are any] must be similar to my opinion, because this is my blog and a dictatorship!
